What happened
AlphaTheta has launched the CDJ-1500X, a smaller separate player aimed at bars, compact clubs, mobile rigs and home booths. It carries over core ideas from the CDJ-3000X while remaining easy to combine with turntables and a mixer's choice of mixer.
Built-in Wi-Fi supports rekordbox CloudDirectPlay and compatible streaming services. An NFC tap from a phone running rekordbox can load personal settings and playlists without a manual sign-in at the player.
The interesting bit
CoBeat is the unusual addition. A DJ or venue can publish a QR code that lets the crowd browse a preselected catalog, vote on songs or submit other requests. Those signals arrive on the player's browse screen, and the DJ can switch the system off whenever it becomes more distraction than conversation.
Requests are not new; putting a controlled layer between the dancefloor and the booth is. Whether it produces a useful feedback loop or a room full of duplicate demands will depend on curation and etiquette more than technology.
