What happened
AlphaTheta has introduced the XDJ-AN, a compact two-channel all-in-one system intended to make a controller user's first step into a club-style workflow less abrupt. It plays from USB storage, desktop DJ software, cloud and streaming sources, as well as supported mobile apps.
The company calls it the first all-in-one DJ system to work with rekordbox for iOS and djay for iOS. Tracks saved on a phone remain playable when no Wi-Fi is available, and DJM-REC support covers recording and live streaming.
The interesting bit
The hardware borrows its control logic from the separate CDJ and DJM units a new DJ is likely to meet in a venue, but it does not insist on one library source. That makes the transition about learning the booth layout, rather than rebuilding an entire music collection first.
Built-in Wi-Fi and low-latency wireless headphone support also point to a booth with fewer mandatory cables, although reliability in busy radio environments will be the real-world test.
