PlasticSynth is private by default. You do not need an account to play, and the instruments process audio in your browser. This page explains what happens to your camera, microphone, sessions, and optional account.
Camera & microphone
A few features ask for hardware access. The PS-AER Theremin uses your webcam to track hand motion. The PS-GRN sampler and the PS-VOX voice transformer record a short clip from your microphone, and the generator's listen-and-match feature listens to your microphone for a few seconds to estimate a key and tempo. Camera frames never leave your device. Microphone audio is captured and processed locally; a recording leaves the browser only if you explicitly save or share a session containing it. Access is requested only when you start that feature, and your browser lets you revoke the permission at any time.
What's stored on your device
Your Studio session autosaves to your browser's localStorage so your work is still there when you come back. This data stays on your machine — it is not sent to us. Clearing your browser storage for this site removes it. Saving a session to a file writes a normal file to your computer that only you have.
Analytics
To understand which instruments people enjoy and where the site can improve, PlasticSynth counts things like which pages are visited, which instruments are opened, and whether anyone actually got a sound out of them. That counting is first-party: the events go to this site's own backend, tagged with a random id that lives in your tab and disappears when you close it. No cookie, no profile, nothing that follows you to another site.
Visitor totals also go to Vercel Analytics, run by the host this site is deployed on. It is cookieless by design and collects no cross-site identifiers. Google Analytics was removed in August 2026 and no third-party advertising or tracking script runs here. Nothing collected is sold, and none of it is used for advertising.
Optional account, cloud saves & sharing
Cloud storage is optional. When you choose Save or Share, the session data needed to play it back — notes, settings and any embedded sample or recording — is stored on the backend. If you create an account, Supabase stores your email and authentication record; PlasticSynth stores only the sessions you explicitly save. If you never use a cloud action, your session stays in your browser or in files you export.
The “describe a track” box
The generator can turn a plain-English description into a track. By default this runs entirely in your browser with a simple keyword matcher, and nothing you type leaves your device. If the person running this site has connected an AI service, the few words you type are sent to that service (Anthropic's API) once, only to pick a genre, key and tempo — never your sessions, recordings, or anything else. It's a single short request, made only when you press the button.
What we don't do

- No uploading of your camera, microphone, or local sessions without your explicit action.
Children
PlasticSynth is a music toy suitable for all ages. It can be played without an account or providing an email.
