Make an FM dreamscape

Glassy bells, a drawn-wave answer and a pad that holds the frame.

You will make

A nostalgic digital loop with contrasting glass, motion and sustained warmth.

Build it, one layer at a time

Tune the glass

Start with FM bells. Whole-number ratios feel stable; increasing the index adds brightness and metallic sidebands.

Listen for: A clear pitch with a bright halo around it.

Draw an answer

Add the wavetable voice in the gaps between bell phrases. Contrast its rougher shape against the precise FM tone.

Listen for: A call and response between two recognisably different digital colours.
▶ Open checkpoint 2 in Studio

Hold the frame

Bring in the pad below both leads. Slow motion glues the short attacks together without copying their rhythm.

Listen for: One continuous atmosphere behind two pointillist parts.
▶ Open checkpoint 3 in Studio

Separate with space

Pan the two bright voices apart and give the bells more reverb than the pad. Depth keeps similar high frequencies from masking one another.

Listen for: Distinct positions for bell, lead and background.
▶ Open checkpoint 4 in Studio
