Write a chiptune hook

A drawn wave, a fast arpeggio and a beat with nowhere to hide.

You will make

A compact game-like loop with a memorable lead and fast harmonic motion.

Build it, one layer at a time

Draw the lead

Start with a simple angular waveform. A nearly square shape gives the hollow, economical tone associated with early game hardware.

Listen for: A bright lead whose pitch remains clear even at low volume.

Fake a chord quickly

Add the arpeggiator. Rapid single notes imply harmony without using a wide polyphonic sound.

Listen for: A chord perceived as motion rather than a block.

Keep the beat readable

Bring in a snappy drum pattern with fewer hits than you first want. Bright voices leave little room for noisy percussion.

Listen for: A clear kick and backbeat beneath the rapid notes.
▶ Open checkpoint 3 in Studio

Repeat with one twist

Let the hook repeat three times and alter its last step on the fourth. Tiny variation is enough when the timbre is bold.

Listen for: A loop that is predictable without feeling copied and pasted.
