About this one
PS-BAR is a struck tuned-bar mallet synth built from modal synthesis: each note is a handful of sine partials at a real bar's inharmonic mode ratios, each ringing out at its own rate (higher modes die away sooner), topped with a short filtered-noise mallet click. On every bar — marimba, vibraphone, glockenspiel and tubular bells — a real recorded sample is blended in for a more natural tone. Pick a bar, dial in the mallet hardness and ring, add a vibraphone tremolo, then program a line on the 16-step lane in scale degrees so it stays in key.
Learn how it works: Modal synthesis→- 01Modal synthesis — inharmonic bar partials, each with its own decay
- 02Four bars: marimba, vibes, glock and bells — each layers a real recorded sample (VCSL, CC0)
- 03A filtered-noise mallet click and a vibraphone tremolo
- 04Program a line in scale degrees, so it always stays in key
- 05In the studio: a tuned mallet line; ✨ DICE rolls a fresh riff
